August 8, 2005 -- Walleye are hitting bottom bouncers with crawler harnesses on the St. Marys river. Some musky and northern pike are in the shallower waters and cuts outside the shipping channels. Some salmon are being caught in the waters off DeTour. Near Drummond Island smallmouth bass are giving fishermen some good action. A few lake trout and chinook are being taken in Lake Huron waters off the lower peninsula shore from Cheboygan to the Oscoda area. Walleye fishing on Saginaw Bay is very slow but some perch are being taken. Near Harbor Beach lake trout fishing is reported to be very good and a few salmon and steelhead are being taken as well. In the harbor fishermen are finding bass and northern along the weeds. Off Grindstone City fishing conditions for lake trout are similar to those reported for Harbor Beach.

July 20. 2005 -- Lake trout limits are common in the waters off Port Austin and some nice salmon are often mixed in with the catch. One report indicates that chinook are hitting good off Grindstone. Walleye are scattered but a few are often taken while trolling for trout and salmon. Good catches of salmon and lake trout are coming from the Rock Port area. In the Harbor Beach area lake trout fishing is good and a few salmon, brown trout and steelhead are also being taken. Perch fishing is not good but some bass and northern pike are being caught in the harbor area.
Walleye fishing seems to have slowed in the Saginaw Bay. A few are being taken by trollers along with many small walleye and lots of sheephead.

July 12, 2005 -- Chinook and lake trout are coming from the waters off Rogers City and Alpena. Walleye are hitting off Tawas, AuGres, Linwood and Bay City. Some smallmouth and catfish are also being caught near Tawas. A few perch are coming from the AuGres area but the bite is very slow. Walleye and lake trout fishing is good off Harbor Beach, Port Sanilac and north of Port Huron.

May 14, 2005 -- A few lake trout and brown trout are being taken from the shallow near shore waters off Lexington. Off Port Austin lake trout and a few chinook have come from waters under 50 feet. In Saginaw Bay some walleye have reportedly been taken from the waters near Channel Island and off Linwood and AuGres. In Tawas Bay good catches of brown trout and walleye have been reported. Perch fishing is reported to be good at Munuscong Bay, near Drummond Island, and in the Les Cheneaux Islands.

May 2, 2005 -- In the area of Tawas Bay those fishing for brown trout have also been boating a few walleye.  Walleye have also come from the area of Saginaw Bay near Linwood.

April 26, 2005 -- This is basically a generic report. There are a few charter boats in the water and they have made a few trips with varying results but the season is only beginning. This time of year in most of the Great Lakes steelhead and brown trout are in the waters near shore and can be taken by trolling close to shore. Smelt and suckers are making spawning runs and can be taken in and near the mouths of streams. Steelhead are also still in many streams. Walleye are just completing their spawning and the white bass are beginning. As the waters continue to warm the fish should begin feeding more actively. Be sure to check the fishing regulations for your area since seasons and creel limits can vary by area and time of year.

Some good catches of walleye have been reported from both the AuGres and Kawkawlin areas.

Reports will begin when boating season starts. (Usually in April)
